The Art of Apparel | December and January Edition

If you’re new to The Art of Apparel posts, check out THIS one or THIS one or go HERE! If you’re anything like me, I love putting outfits together in the Fall and Winter (probably because the more layers you add to an outfit the more personality it has!)

The first picture was all about accessories! As easy as it would have been to leave the house with a loose sweater and leggings, adding subtile touches makes the outfit pop a bit more! In this case I threw on some ankle socks to go with the boots, a loose knit scarf and a pom pom hat! (Not pictured here was my winter coat as well!) I promise if you take the time to add a couple things your outfit will shout creative!

The second outfit was all about going bold! I have this one bright orange Michael Kors winter coat that I LOVE! Normally I wouldn’t imagine a bright orange coat would look good on a redhead, but I think sometimes taking the step outside of your comfort zone can pay off! I promise you every time I wear this coat I get at least three compliments!!! So what in your closet hasn’t seen the light in a while because it might be just a bit outside of your norm? Got it in your head? Try wearing that thing! 😉

The third picture was an outfit I wore a couple Sunday’s ago, and here’s the catch! The dress is actually a Summer maxi spaghetti strap dress! (And no one knew! Well…until now!) Here’s the trick! If you’re getting a little bored with your wardrobe, look at the clothes that you might instinctively think only belong in a certain season. Then ask yourself what can I layer on top of this? So for me, instead of wearing lots of jewelry and sandals I put on a scarf, jean jacket and some ankle boots and all the sudden it seemed appropriate that I was wearing this in the winter!

The last picture focuses on patterned pants. You all know that I love my leggings, but sometimes I need a bit of a mix up. Enter patterned pants! I adore some flare (I own these as well as a couple floral pairs!) The key to wearing patterned pants is watching what you  pair it with. In this case I kept the upper part of my outfit to the solid colors so I wouldn’t give everyone looking at me a headache! 😉 You can still keep it interesting by adding a pop of color!
