A Ladder Full O’ Flowers | Craving the Creative

Here we are–week three! Boy time seems to be going faster and faster these days! I’m happy to announce we are OFFICIALLY IN OUR NEW HOME! What a whirlwind! Michael was a groomsmen this last weekend in his college roommates wedding in Texas. We flew down, ate cake and celebrated, went to bed at midnight Saturday…took a two and a half hour “nap” then woke up to catch two flights in order to get back for church Sunday. We rented a Uhaul, filled it up with all our belongings (which had been stowed away in our in-laws garage the last month), drove it up to our new place (and for the sake of our new couches-thankfully missed the rain!), then unloaded it all! We seriously couldn’t have done it without all the amazing help from family and friends!!! YOU GUYS ROCK! And then–we crashed.

The last few days have consisted of unpacking, sorting, and finding new homes for old belongings. They were made up of cranking up the tunes, sweats and baseball caps. (Michael says the majority of the boxes held my decorations…hehe this might be true. And the second most contains my clothes. Also, true). I secretly want to snap my fingers and hope that everything hops to their rightful spot (hehe yes, this was a Mary Poppin’s quote). BUT we can finally see the floor in our living room and our bedroom is actually livable! I’m okay with this. And that about brings you up to date!

I’d like to take a minute to thank all of you who read this for giving me a valid excuse to sit down, unwind a bit and not feel guilty! Michael tells me all the time to relax, take a break–but it’s so hard for me to sit still! (You know the kind). Haha so now I’m getting the best of both worlds!

For those of you who’ve been following me for a while (either via blog or Facebook) you might remember when I first came up with this DIY craft. (I love it when you can watch them come to life again!) For the longest time I had the itch to do this craft, but there was a supply shortage. Shortly after a major storm hit in Saint Louis (like tree branches ripped off kinda storm) so I went outside after the storm and started gathering large branches and dragging them behind me back to our apartment (I’m pretty sure the neighbors thought I had last my mind!) Michael pulled up as I was about home from my trek. Haha I still remember his face. He had his signature smerk and just shook his head, “Whatcha doin’ babe?” And then came my signature reply, “Oh you know, a craft.”

So here we go! I took two large branches and three smaller ones (please, no sawing of the neighbors trees). I love twine (as we all know) so I wrapped it around each rung to make the wooden ladder. Then I bought three silver buckets from Home Depot (mine have rusted, but I love the look!) Then comes the fun part! I wandered up and down the garden isles visualizing exactly what my little buckets would look like. (Haha for me it normally included the front porch, some sort of comfy chair, soft breeze…maybe a cup of coffee in my hands….okay Lacey. Bring it back). And after all that, yes, I had successfully walked up and down the isles about 17 times. Finally I found the perfect combination of flowers, some potting soil, and sauntered back to my car smile and all.

I gave those beautiful little babies new homes (soil, water, a little tender loving care) then grabbed the twine again! Yes, more twine. Hang one bucket on each rung and lean your ladder against a truly visible part of your home (you want to show off those beauties!) Let me insert a comment: DO NOT lean it against the house above a power outlet. Yes, I speak from experience.

And there you have it! A hard earned, good smellin’, pleasant lookin’ DIY craft! Because there’s no better way to brush away gloomy days (and make a house feel like home) than some bright, beautiful flowers!
