Ethan + Lori | Where Sunrise Glow Grows High

Every photographer is on the hunt for a new, fresh, “soon to be discovered” location! A new little jewel of a spot where we can tuck away in our back pocket. Well, earlier this Fall I was looking for a field. Not just any field, mind you. But a field of vibrant yellow golden rods! A field off the beaten path (and bonus points if the sunrise or sunset showered its light on it).

I kid you not, about three days after I began my hunt, Lori posted a picture on Instagram of this dream field! The yellows were deep mustard color. Trees in the distance for dynamic. And yes, the sunset was even falling over the field. WHERE WAS THIS PLACE!? Immediately, I texted her! And you’ll never guess what her response was!! “Oh girl! This is our backyard!” WHAT!?!?!? Not only did such a magnificent place exist, but it was right out the Funk’s back door!

Now lets fast forward a couple months. Lori contacted me and asked if I had any available dates to take hers and Ethan’s Christmas pictures! And not only that–but she wanted to take them (yep! You guess it!!) in the field behind their house!!! I was ecstatic! Not only was I going to get to take pictures of two people who were crazy photogenic, but I was going to get to do it in my dream location!!! And do you know what makes it even more special?! This is Lori and Ethan’s first home! Add all three of those together and it couldn’t get more perfect!

Between everyone’s schedule, we finally found a date in November! The Golden Rods yellow had faded but don’t be fooled! It was no less glorious! We braved the cold morning air for a sunrise shoot. And oh was that a perfect decision!! The suns warm glow caught in the field. It rose slow off to our right–illuminating their love, their home, their field. It absorbed into Ethan’s smile and bounced around Lori’s laugh. It danced in the treetops and warmed them as they tucked inside the blanket. A couple unbelievable, a morning unequaled, a field unmatched. And all where the sunrise glow grows high.
