Every. Single. Thursday!
I’m not going to say it’s easy. Or that every week I’m just dying to open my laptop and pour out my thoughts. But today–today I have my music playing, my candle lit, my hair in a messy bun and my sweet little Boxer pup asleep at my feet. Today it’s sunny and smells like Spring. I’ve decided today is a good day to tell you why I’ve decided to post a blog every Thursday…
Over the past few years I’ve discovered how vital this discipline of my business has become! When I first started blogging I thought I’d see an amazing result after the first couple weeks! Wroooong. That’s not to say that I didn’t have those (sweet, encouraging, life-saving) people tell me they were reading my blog or leaving comments here or there. (Sidenote: to all of you who did this for me—I’LL LOVE YOU FOREVER!!! You are the people who poured the oil on the teeny tiny flame burning in my heart to write, the ones who fanned it and helped make this business grow!!)
Fast forward a few more months. I watched countless webinars saying blogging was a must have in business. They were successful, well known. Their businesses were credible and touching lives far beyond their own (*ehm* MINE!) I wanted to be like that! I brainstormed, prayed, talked with Michael….then finally came to the decision I must commit to blogging at least once a week! I sucked in a deep breath of air, felt my heart beat a little faster at the huge undertaking I was about to make–then wrote it down (because lets be honest. If it doesn’t get seen, it’s just not going to happen!) After that I told people. I let others know Thursdays were my blog day. And that was probably THE hardest part about the whole process! Having others know about what you’re doing keeps you on track, accountable.
And so, it began. One blog a week. Week after week turned into month after month. A personal blog HERE, an educational blog THERE, a blog for a bride NEXT, a blog with pictures of my little family AFTER. Photo shoots of my beautiful, wonderful clients HERE, HERE + HERE. I began blogging like my life depended on it. Some weeks I prepared and wrote everything Monday….other weeks it was 10:45 Thursday night and I was just pushing publish. But I did it!
And then….something beautiful and rewarding started happening. I began seeing fruit! I began watching the numbers of people visiting my site increase! I began talking with brides over coffee and they would quote blog posts back to me (from months back!!) I began talking with new clients and they shared how they stalked my blog and knew they were going to hire me because they felt like they knew me!! My heart lept for joy!!! THAT is why I was doing it!!!
So my clients knew ME! So they can have an experience of meeting me even before we drank a cup of coffee together. So I could help educate them on the process of pictures, on what to wear, on when the best time to take pictures was. So I could share personal stories of how much I love donuts and how much I talk about my amazing husband and how I couldn’t live without my family. So they could see the other incredible clients I’ve gotten to work with and invite them into their stories. To share fashion tips, to reflect on God’s goodness, to show step by step editing guides, to sparking creativity during a photo shoot!
And just like that. It became vital. Fundamental. Key. The life of my business!!
