Chris + Kayla | Engagement at Clinton Lake

Their love started at KU, so it only seemed appropriate that we begin our photo journey there as well. We wandered through campus, now deserted because of the Summer. As we walked from sunset glow paths to stone walls, I watched them. Watched how they looked at each other, how they laughed. It was genuine. Watched how Chris slipped his hands around Kayla’s waist, a subtle act, but one that left no doubt she was his. Kayla, his brunette beauty. She laughed with ease. The way the interacted was natural, unforced. Like this was them camera in front of them or not.

Then came Clinton Lake, where Chris proposed. As we walked down to the water front we were greeted with this scene. Boulders, large and white. Like stepping stones to this magical location. They slipped their shoes off and waded through the peach waters. Soft reflections of sherbet orange and pale yellows rippled before them. A bit of fire glow illuminated their hair. And they danced. Chris lifted Kayla on his back. They held hands and laughed. Besides a bystander or two, the air was still. I selfishly wanted the sun to stop it’s journey to sleep and take the scene in more. But like every photographer, I claimed each precious moment before me. Soft click, click, clicks. The sun slipped behind the small hills but the memory was now buried safe in time.
