Five Things On My Off Season Checklist | For the Small Business Owner

If you’re a photographer then you’re probably at the point in the season where you’re creatively exhausted and completely wiped out from the Fall season! I’m right there with you! As the slower season begins to set in I know that my body is going to need a break–but as Michael always reminds me…I don’t do so good if I don’t have any projects on the horizon. So I’ll relax, watch Netflix, craft, sleep in, turn on Hallmark movies, bake…and then after about a week or two I’ll start to get restless. Happens every year. So this year I’ve taken matters into my own hands and have prepared a list for “Nothing To-Do” Lacey! When I have things written down they seem to get done (probably because I’m one of “those” people who just like to cross something off their list!) So here it is friends! Five things on my off season checklist—and if you’re a small business owner, maybe they’ll help brainstorm ways to continue to be productive even in the off season!

1. Spice Up My Website!
Actually, if I’m being honest this has been on my checklist for the last few months or more and I’ve been slowly chipping away at adding and designing four new pages for you all! But then hello busy season = screeching stop. Sooo, my goal in the down season is to launch the new designs!!! So keep an eye friends! There will be so much for you all!

2. Continued Education & Reading
I’ve learned more and more the value of continued education and growing in my craft! I never want to be stagnant! Last year I went to a Creative at Heart conference in Colorado (SO good!) but this year I did something a little different! I bought an online course by Katelyn James! I’m so excited to start working through the modules and videos! I also read educational books throughout the year but literally went online two days ago and ordered five more plus the three I have to finish on my shelf!

3. Put Together a Styled Shoot
Spoiler alert! This one just happened!!! (Follow along my Insta stories here!) I’ve partnered with Ultrapom rentals, Blue Thistle Cakes, watercolor artist and designer Beth Laird and florist Heather from Heart and Soul Floral to create something incredibly gorgeous! If you go to my Facebook page I’m sure you’ll be overwhelmed with so many sneak peeks!!!

4. Update My Guides
Bridal guide, family guide, welcome packet, etc! I hope to go through and  each and update information and pictures! My heart and prayer through my business is to serve my clients well and this is just one of the ways that I love doing that!!

5. REST!
Is it weird that I’m putting that on my checklist? I’m totally one of those people who needs to write it down, to check it off, to feel like I’ve accomplished even something like relaxation. It’s silly. But our bodies need rest. They need to stop. They need to recuperate. That’s what off season is for. Plus there is something about this time of the year…the snow, the fire, the cozy clothes. Taking the time to invest back into relationships and memories. Oh it’s going to be so good!
