She was quiet and gently sincere. He was funny and lively animated. Together they fit so well.
We walked around downtown Liberty Memorial. Stone paths, oversized steps, manicured green lawns. Her vibrant floral dress and mustard yellow cardigan were the perfect compliments to the backdrop bold and tall behind them. His quick smile danced across his face, through his eyes and spread over his mouth as he joked with her. She laughed back. Somehow I knew this was an everyday occurrence. Her tear drop shaped diamond ring he picked out by himself. Surprised her one winter day with it as she was crying because she wouldn’t get to go home for Christmas. It wasn’t the plan, but it was perfect.
The sun shifted lower in the sky, giving the cityscape a soft, warm glow. We walked back up the steps to a cove of blue arrayed tiles. Almost like we had planned it, their next outfit change matched perfectly. I watched them relax in front of the lens. Watched how they looked at each other, how they interacted. I smiled behind the camera. The summer air could have fooled us all with the chill in her breeze. He thought it was perfect, she thought it was cold. Now only the halo of sunshine lingered. Another day ended, another day closer to a life forever together.
