Together we walked under lively, spirited yellow leaves hanging on for the last few days of glory. Dan and Sarah, two parents with a deep love for their boys and their third son or daughter that would join their family in a few months. Their love for each other and their sons defined each of their actions, their words, their looks as I spent this 70 degree evening with them. From the way Dan knelt to be beside his oldest son, Graham. His son that would carry on his fathers name, character and I hope gentle spirit. To the way Sarah held Garrett. Soft and tender, somehow without words speaking security to his little heart.

Kansas City seemed right that night. The turquoise doorframe held detailing unseen at first glance. Brick walls and soft evening light. The alleyway stairs reflected orange in the windows above their heads. Maroon lace shirts, classy dark wash jeans and nude heels. An ideal compliment to this bold place. Sarah and Dan dressed in smiles and resilient ease. Their bright personalities and easy conversation aren’t characteristics regularly seen these days. But unquestionably they had them. Graham was spunky and spirited and strong. Humor and personality burst from his little five year old frame. Garrett, pushing through the session like a champ. Brothers. No matter what.
