Why Detail Shots Matter | For the Bride

There is something innate and deep inside me that resonates with stories. And as a photographer being welcomed into a wedding day-I’m being welcomed into something incredibly special. A story. No, YOUR story.

I have talked with some brides who don’t care as much about getting photos of the details (ie: shoes, perfume, invitations, grandmothers jewelry). And as that settled inside me, it felt off…but I couldn’t always put my finger on just why. Until now.

As a storyteller–one with both words and images–I’m committed to scripting the entire essence of your wedding day. I don’t just want you to remember the looks on your bridesmaids faces when they saw you for the first time or the tears that your mom had in her eyes as she zipped up your dress (although of course, I want you to see those as well!) But I want you to see the image of the perfume you wore as you walked down the isle and suddenly, the light floral scent sprayed on your neck comes back to you and your spouses memory. I want you to see your carefully designed invitations and remember the hours you took addressing them…friends by your side, almost hearing their laughter as you licked and stamped each envelope. I want you to see the earrings that your grandmother used to wear and all at once have her legacy rush back into your heart along with the hope of this day being the day you carry on that legacy.

Details aren’t just details. They are pieces and parts to a beautiful story that started long before the day you say ‘I do,’ and will continue long after. They are memories in and of themselves. Your wedding day details matter. Because they are yours and they carry with them your story. Let me tell it…
