Planning a Styled Shoot from Start to Finish | Step Four: The Shoot & Post Follow Up

Here it is! You made it! The final blog in our series of planning your very own styled shoot! If you missed any of the first three click HERE, HERE or HERE! You ready? Onto the last few steps!

THE ACTUAL SHOOT
The day has finally arrived! There is something so satisfying when a vision comes to life! When creative vendors pull together to make something beautiful! On the day your actual session here are a couple things to keep in mind:

Get to the shoot early & be abundant in praise!
Everyone has put time and energy into making this a reality and as a creative myself, there is something so wonderful about feeling loved and appreciated! About having your work loved on! As you are the first one to arrive, be there to greet the other vendors, swoon over their work, thank them! This is just as much (or more) about them than it is you!! Make sure they know it! Bonus tip: If you’re meeting early, try and have coffee & breakfast food for everyone to snack on!

Connect & Build
One of the biggest advantages to putting together a styled shoot are the connections and relationships that you are making the day of! This is huge! These are the people that you’ll work alongside with at future weddings, friends that you’ll share business life (and hopefully) regular life with! Don’t focus on yourself. Make sure you are intentional about asking about their businesses, how they got started, how their season is going. Ask about ways you can help them (no strings attached). Go into your styled shoot with a listening ear and be ready to make mental notes on how you can love them afterwards! (If you want to read a wonderful book on practical steps to doing this, I highly recommend: How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie)

POST SHOOT FOLLOW UP
So your shoot is over (and let’s be honest, you’re on cloud nine. I totally get it!) After the styled shoot is a wrap, there are a few necessary steps that are vital to having a successful session!

1) You are probably exhausted, but resist the urge to flop onto the couch right away! If you are able, go home and edit 3-4 images that night. There will be high interest (not just from fellow vendors but also from your social media accounts if you’ve been creating a behind the scenes look!) People are refreshing their feed to get a glimpse at the final product! This is to your advantage!!! As you’re picking a few favorite images, try to think through all the vendors and post something that shows off one of each persons work! Why? They’ll want to repost and share with their followers as well!! After you edit your images, post to social media (tagging everyone involved) be sure to send a quick email letting them know a sneak peek is up which also includes everyone’s social media accounts!

2) Once you’ve finished editing all your images, try to have them in multiple formats. What I mean is this: Write a blog (detailing the process & highlighting the awesome people you worked with)! Add them to Instagram and Insta Story! Post to Facebook with a link back to your blog! The more ways that you can showcase the images the better!

3) When you’re ready to send your final email to your vendors with a link to the online gallery of images–thank them again, make the downloading easy (include a step by step process), list the vendors and their social media accounts (yes, again)! The easier it is for them to get and use the pictures, the more likely they will share!

4) End your styled shoot with a hand written note or small gift! Obviously this isn’t necessary, but what a long way it will go having each vendor feel so appreciated! The key to this whole thing is love others well!!!
