There is just something about their curiosity, about watching them wonder at the small things hidden in plain view within the big world around them. There is something about observing them learn, witnessing them crawl and grow and become the boy you were certain just moments before was a baby.
And then there is something about stepping back and stepping into a simple space alongside them where you intentionally remember those moments. His smile. His lopsided-so close to walking-crawl. His laugh when you tickle him on his side or the way he snuggles deep into your shoulder and wraps his little arms around your neck. You step out of your rhythm, your normal, and slow down to remember.
This your son in all his littleness and bigness. In his growth and the holding him tight to make time stand still. One year. Happy birthday sweet one.
