One of my favorite parts of this gallery is watching the relationship between the siblings begin to unfold.

When families come to the studio with an older child, I don’t expect them to sit still and cooperate perfectly for an entire session. Toddlers are toddlers—and honestly, some of the best photographs happen because they aren’t perfectly posed.

I give them room to interact with their new baby and with their parents.

Sometimes that means holding the baby.

Sometimes it means snuggling with Mom or Dad.

Sometimes it means taking a little break and coming back when they’re ready.

The goal isn’t perfection.

It’s connection.

And those photographs of siblings together become such an important part of the story of welcoming a new baby.
