DIY It Is Well with My Soul | Personal

Everyone budgets their money their own way. Michael and I decided early into marriage that a “fun money” section was a must! Each month we have a designated amount of money we each get to spend on whatever we want. (For Michael, more often than not, it’s food. For myself, it’s crafts, clothes or candles. What can I say? The dangerous C’s).

Well, a couple months ago was Christmas. Oh yes! FUN MONEY GALORE! (At this point I would like everyone to note that it is February 3rd. FEBRUARY THIRD! I made it over a month with fun money! Point for Lacey!) Anyways, back to the story.

For a couple of weeks, this idea has been floating around in “reserve crafts.” Give me a free Saturday, Michaels craft store and fun money…and vwa-la! (That point I had been holding onto in the above paragraph-gone!) I put all my supplies down on the counter and cashier rung everything up. Now granted, I had been slowly draining my fun money. But I still had $40. Then she spoke the glorious words, “Your total is $39.99.” ONE PENNY BABY! Done! I hauled my supplies home, painted the letters, cut some stickies (those are really called Command Strips for all of you who don’t speak Lacey) and the final product came together quickly. And with a penny to spare!

I may not have any more fun money (hehe, at least for a few more weeks) but as I walk around with one penny in my pocket, I get so much out of this craft! I get the joy of reminding myself of this truth every day. I get speaking it to myself when my heart is down. “It IS WELL with my soul!” No matter my circumstance, no matter daily struggles or unknowns, it is well with my soul! I am not good enough, I cannot save myself, “But Christ has regarded my helpless estate, and shed His own blood for my soul!”

Though trials should come–IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL!

Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord, oh my soul!!!!
