Recently I was trying to count up the number of photo shoots that I’ve gotten to take of Tom and Crystal. It’s the thing I tell people on the street who ask me what I do for a living. After we’ve hit the main points of “I’m a wedding and family photographer” they usually look at me like, “Okay.” This is the part I get to explain to them WHY I love what I do! Because–like the Benedict’s–I get to do life with people! It’s not a once, nice to meet you and now it’s over! I’ve captured memories of Tom and Crystal before kids, when their family of two became three, a snowy Christmas maternity shoot surrounded by mini trees (see HERE), and then this time….
We met where their story as man and wife began. Where they said ‘I Do’ to one another almost ten years ago. With a backdrop of flowers and manicured lawns they relived stories from their wedding day. Hand in hand, just like ten years ago. Except this time they had life, they had memories of seasons, of moves, of different states, different homes filling the shared space between them. They had a story uniquely their own. One that only the other could fully comprehend. Fully enjoy. They had seconds and minutes and days, months, years teeming with the other. They had two sons and two dogs. They had a family. They touched lives–mine among them.
And I hope as ten years becomes twenty and thirty and two kids turn into grandkids that I will get to be there with them. To capture the beautiful life they began together…and know will end that way too.
