Wisdom, Wit & Whatnot | Volume Fourteen

It’s raining here. And if you know me, this is basically my happy place.

As I’m writing this, it’s actually July still (Say hello to auto-timed posts and planning ahead! It doesn’t happen all the time people, but when it does it’s a glorious thing!) July was an insanely busy month for Michael and I (more on that later)…so as you read this we’ll actually be on a two week vacation in Colorado with my family!!

And so, because I’ve been off the wisdom, wit and whatnot grid for a while (SEE LAST POST HERE), I thought I’d drop in and catch you up on our lives!
-About two months ago, Michelle Joy, a wedding photographer in Ohio (visit her website here) and I got connected through Instagram! We both loved Jesus and were passionate about photography and began following each other. Soon I got an email from Michelle saying she was photographing (and being a bridesmaid) in a wedding in KC and wondered if I would be her second shooter! That’s the power of social media right there! She is such an incredibly sweet soul, gentle in her approach to others and so talented!! I know the internet gets a bad rap sometimes….but it’s stories like this one (and new friendships it brings) that reminds me of how it can connect me with people I might never have gotten the joy to know!! (See the wedding here).

-We had a “stay-cation” in KC with Michael’s family! What does that mean? It means 10 adults, two kids and four dogs all sleeping under the same roof for a week. And it was AWESOME!

-We went to Top Golf and this is what I discovered about myself. Apparently I’m as good a golfer as my three year old nephew. What? We can’t win at everything!!! Hahaha

-One of our days we had a guys/girls day where the boys went fishing and to a Sporting KC game while the girls had breakfast downtown, got our nails done and went shopping. (I know, I think we got the better end of the deal too!) 😉 Oh also. My nails do not–I repeat–DO NOT look good with rhinestones. You may be thinking, ‘Lacey, why did you ask for them then?’ Let me tell you. I didn’t. She just started gluing! Michael said I looked like I had been bedazzled. I say he wasn’t lying.

-Michael’s grandparents own a boat, so one evening we took dinner out and swam, ate on the lake and stayed out till the sun set. I don’t know about you, but the older I get the more I realize how awesome it is to get to share life with siblings! Anybody else??

-At the end of the week I was a part of Wild Hill Flowers ethereal/woodland inspired styled shoot! (Check it out here!) OMG people!!! The vendors that worked to bring this to life made my job a breeze! And is was STUNNING! Every. Last. Detail!

-One Friday night we had the 20-30’s in our church over to our house for a movie night!! And I’m not just saying any old movie night—we hung a sheet off the back deck and projected the movie onto it! We threw blankets in the yard and busted out popcorn and candy!

-I had an engagement session with one of the sweetest couples! We knew the temperature was going to be 102 the day of their session so I asked if they wanted to reschedule. But, they were champs and wanted to go for it! So when I left the house it was a high of 102 plus heat index but when I got to our site the thermostat read 96. I told them I had never been so happy to see 96 degrees! Heheheeh But guys, Erin + Kasey were incredible! And honestly, you would never be able to guess from their pictures at the heat they were enduring!!! Seriously though–check it out!

-Michael and I hosted 5 college guys at our house for a week! (I’m pretty sure we went through almost three gallons of milk!) But these guys were so thoughtful and had such servants hearts! They loaded their dishes in the dishwasher, asked how they could help with dinner and when I went to clean up after they left they had stripped their beds and folded their sheets! Talk about a neat group of guys!!! The longer Michael and I are married, the more we realize how much we LOVE having people stay in our home!

-Speaking of “the longer we’re married”…we celebrated our five year anniversary!!!! Michael and I were talking about how it’s hard to remember what life was life before we got married. But we wouldn’t go back!! I can’t get over how thankful I am for a husband who continually drives me back into the Lords arms, reminds me of truth, holds me steady when I feel weak, inspires me on in my dreams, walks beside me no matter what the season looks like and loves me deeply even when he sees my sin. Marriage is so beautiful and hard and incredible. And I can’t believe I get to experience it with Michael!

Well there’s the long-short of it friends!!! July in a nutshell! Be sure to follow along on Instagram to see my random Insta stories of our daily happenings and updates of new blog posts!!!
