Two Things You Can Do To Make Your Session Exceptionally Unique | Pt. 2

SessionUnique_Pt2

So if you missed the first post–stop now and read it HERE!
No seriously.
Do.

These two posts go hand in hand with one another so to understand one you must read the other! You did it? Well why didn’t you say so before? 😉

At this point you have already determined the feel you are hoping to have when you go back and look at your images. (Remember, this is that adjective you’ve chosen!) You’ve also thought outside the box discovering a location that fits with your vision and creatively displays you! Now comes the second part to this mini series! The second major key that you can do to making your session exceptionally unique is in the outfit you choose!

There it is! Outfits! You might be sitting there thinking, “Well Lacey, that’s all good and well…but easier said than done!” Don’t worry! The post isn’t over! Let’s go back to the example from part one of this series. We are going to imagine the couple we talked about who wanted the classic, elegant and timeless photos. We drive up to the wheat field–golden, swaying in the soft breeze. The sun is setting leaving us with perfect glow. We’ve chosen the ABSOLUTE ideal location for images that will whisper elegance. Then the couple steps from their car. They are wearing jeans, t-shirts and a pair of flip flops. Will words like exquisite, classic and graceful come to mind? Probably not. Picture the same scene but this time she steps out of the car with a high waisted pastel pink floral patterned skirt, a soft beige blouse and some gold chunky jewelry complete with high heels. He’s in slate gray slacks, shirt tucked in and a pressed button up. All the sudden the scene comes to life, the adjectives coined are easily brought to mind. See how the outfits that are chosen complete the scene?

Now down to the nitty gritty. How.
The first point….and maybe the most important is NOT to match. And I’m talking “matchy-matchy we’re all in white shirts and kakkis” here. Let your creativity flow! Start by picking two colors that you absolutely love together! If that’s too hard, pick one then go online and look up it’s complimentary color. The color that you like best will be your base color and the second will be your accent! Here’s where it starts getting fun! Begin by choosing the outfit that will be hardest. (No offense ladies, usually it’s us! At least that’s how it is when Michael and I take pictures! I want to find something that I feel good in….he could care less which one of his button ups he’ll wear. As long as it’s not the salmon colored one). 😉 So start with the girls! Pick an outfit that you absolutely LOVE! Maybe its a flowy navy and white striped maxi dress with a cut-out in the back. We’ve chosen some big earrings, maybe a floppy hat to take the outfit to the next level! (And remember, always go back to the question, Does it fit my adjective?) You have it? Great! Then proceed to the next person. For this one you throw in the accent color! Maybe if he’s bold, he’ll wear a pair of burgundy colored pants, a solid white shirt and some rusted brown suspenders. Getting the picture? Layering outfits or adding pieces like fun jewelry, colored heels, bowties for boys, scarves, hats etc add SO much to the picture! Alright. Onto the next person! Maybe it’s your four year old daughter. Remembering back we have white, navy and burgundy as our main colors. So make sure whatever you choose for her compliments that palette. Put her in a fun, flirty floral pattern. Add a bow to her hair and a navy cardigan that way no matter what parent she’s with there’s accent! Probably the easiest way to face this process is as you pick out your outfits lay them side by side to see how they all look together. Don’t be shy! Put shoes, jewelry–basically EVERYTHING everyone will be wearing on the bed so you get the entire picture!

As you’re picking out outfits, keep these helpful hints in mind:
-Be sure to pick things you feel confident in!!! If you start out your session not liking how you look in your outfit, you won’t like the pictures in the end. 😉 Surprising, I know!
-Take skin tone and hair color into account. If you have gorgeous dark hair, lighter blush colors or pale yellows look lovely! If you have fair skin, pick something darker in color like navy or emerald or deep ruby red!
-I will always, always, ALWAYS love you if you come dressed up! (Okay, I’ll love you either way! But maybe an extra dose of love to those who dress up!) 😉 It’s the perfect time to feel pampered and put together!!!
