Our flight touched down in Las Angeles, we hopped into our rental car and started the breathtaking drive up the California coastline. We drove Highway 1 with gorgeous orange waters to the left and cliffs with the sun sinking behind them to the right. As a photographer who spends her days looking for the light, this place was pure magic! Paul and Lindsay’s California destination beach wedding was only two days away but the wonder of it all captivated me. I felt like I had just stepped into a page from a storybook…
We blinked and their wedding day was before us. Lindsay’s bridesmaids–childhood friends, soccer teammates, sisters and sisters-to-be surrounded her. Kind, cheerful, engaging, a joy to be around! There were loose beach waves and waterfall braids and knee length soft teal bridesmaid dresses. There were joking groomsmen and slate gray suits to compliment the color tones. We couldn’t have wished for better weather. Sunny with a cool, ever so slight breeze. The venue was charming. Viney garden walls with purple and pink flowers accenting the sides. String twinkle lights, oversized cobblestones and succulents that were intentionally dispersed around the grounds! Oversized white couches and round tables ready for guests to gather at.
The beach they said their vows had warm sand that worked it’s way through our toes as we walked barefoot. A large white canopy stood above them and the ocean lapped behind them. Guests took their seats on their wooden chairs. By the end of the ceremony, the sunlight turned golden just in time for family and bridal party portraits. By the time we arrived for the grand entrance, dusk was setting in and the string lights were starting to shine. Fathers made toasts and I couldn’t help but smile as I realized these two families were already becoming one. Delicious food was served and waiters in black and white stood at attention. The day ended as Paul and Lindsay left through the walkway with friends and family on either side, bubbles all around and the knowledge that this day was just the start to a future together as man and wife….
