Wisdom, Wit + Whatnot | Volume Ten

Jeepers! How long has it been since I’ve written one of these!?! Man oh day! I apologize! For that, as well as the fact that I just used the phrase jeepers. 😉 But I’m not going to lie. It was kind of fun.

A lot has happened between now and October. Yes. OCTOBER! (Now I’m a little embarrassed). And because we all know that I could talk for days–I will spare you pages upon pages upon pages upon….well, you get the idea….and catch you up on some of the highlights from the holidays!

-When you get married not only do you get a best friend for life and forever adventure buddy (I don’t know how much Michael likes it when I call him buddy hehe…but he’s a good man and puts up with it) but you get the added bonus of TWO FAMILIES! And in case you didn’t do the math–that means two sets of parents, two bunches of siblings and yes TWO CHRISTMASES! Our first was celebrated in Colorado with my family the first week of December. It did a couple things for me….

-It FINALLY put me among the group with the coveted title of “I’m finished with my Christmas shopping early!” This has NEVER happened to me!!! Sure, it was out of necessity and no I didn’t tell them that it was only for one side of the family but you better bet I relished in owning that description! I said it with pride when people asked (although I didn’t tell them other years I did my Christmas shopping on the 24th). I let them believe I was just that ahead of the game hehehe…

-During that time we hung out in sweats with my family and played countless board games, ate countless sweets, played with nephews and snapped some {almost} newborn pictures of our new niece! (See them HERE). We went to an improv show, took some new pictures of Michael and I in the snow among the mini pine trees (as seen below) and soaked up every second of time together! All in all, my heart was full and overflowing.

-I will say when you celebrate Christmas that early and then you fly back and have two more weeks before actual Christmas it is the strangest feeling!!! It was like, “Sad. Christmas is over.” And then PSYCH! “Here we go again!!!!” So during our Christmas intermission Michael and I picked out our adorable little tree and got back into the spirit of the season! (Sidenote: when you have Christmas early out of town then come back with 14 days till the actual Christmas there is slim picking on the trees! So ours was the shortest, fattest little thing. But oh we loved it!) 😉

-Also within these days I got sick with the flu which had me down and out for a good week. Hello hot baths, NyQuil, Gilmore Girls and space heaters!

-Thankfully I was back at it for Christmas round two with Michael’s family! We had another week off turning off emails and taking it easy. During this time the boys went to see Star Wars in the theaters and us girls were brainstormed something fun for us to do and in a matter of 45 minutes it was decided. I would get my nose pierced! So yep. That happened. (I’ve always kinda wanted one and you know what they say! Carpe Diem!)

-After THAT Christmas I got the flu again. Yes, twice. Awesome. I see a theme here.

-As a result of that I was laying on the couch for New Years. Michael is a good man and loves me well. He took care of me–got me Sprite and mini Saltine crackers. The two things I always want when I’m sick! (Gosh, there it is again!) But we rang in 2017 together and you know what? Even though I was sick, there is absolutely no other person I would have wanted to be with!

-A New Year brought reflections about the last one (SEE POST HERE)….

-As well as a gorgeous, snowy winter wedding this last weekend! (To see sneak peeks follow along on Facebook HERE or Instagram HERE)!

-Yesterday morning I woke up at 5:30 to meet one of my past brides for coffee. And as I was talking with Michael the night before about how excited I was I realized it was because yes, my goal in every session is to take beautiful pictures (that’s a given). But my heart behind Lacey Rene Studios is to cultivate meaningful relationships….and I saw that that is exactly what was happening!!! So although we got to Starbucks before the sun came up it was worth every second!!!

So there it is!!! And if you dropped off somewhere in the middle of my blabbering here’s a Spark Notes version: Christmas (times two), flu (times two), coffee, snowy winter weddings and family!
